SGS’s battery characterization and performance testing services, including IEC 62660 and IEC 61892 – demonstrate the quality and efficiency of your product.

Highway in the dark

For automotive applications, we provide a complete service using the latest technology – test stands with current amplitudes up to 600A and voltages up to 1000V for battery packs.

The cell, module and battery pack are characterized by:

  • Capacity in Ampere-hours
  • Internal Resistance
  • Complex Impedance
  • Dynamic Impulse Response

Climatic chambers assure constant environmental conditions during characterization and allow the simulation to be performed for the full automotive temperature range covering climatic conditions from all over the globe.

Battery performance services include the determination of:

  • State Of Charge (SOC)
  • State of Health (SOH)
  • Energy Efficiency

Drive Cycles are simulated for the drive trains of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV), Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) and Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) as per the required specifications of car manufacturers (OEMs). Rise times of currents well below 1ms can be applied if needed. Controlled cooling of the battery can be performed during drive cycles, simulating precisely thermal conditions in the car. The Cold Cranking Test for Hybrid Vehicles Battery completes our battery testing scope.

Our industry experts understand and are familiar with the latest characterization and performance tests required by car manufacturers. For decades we have been a trusted technical service and testing partner for the automotive industry.

Tests provided are in accordance with the relevant regulations and standards, such as SAE, VDA, ISO (e.g. ISO 12405) and IEC standards (e.g. IEC 62660 formerly IEC 61982-4).
