Environmental Policy

Environmental Policy

SGS Environmental Analytics plays an important role in the environmental value chain by delivering analytical services for public and commercial customers. As an actor in the environmental value chain the company takes its responsibility to embrace Corporate Social Responsibility and support the sustainable development. SGS Environmental Analytics has been certified according to ISO14001:2015 since 2004 with the goal to improve her environmental performance. In 2009 we decided to take this a step further. Corporate Social Responsibility gets more and more attention. The exhaustion of non-renewable natural resources and the overall influence of man on the living environment are the most important factors driving this. Because of this increased interest companies are becoming more aware of the responsibility they have on social responsible behavior.

The IDTF (Integrated Drafting Task Force) of the ISO Working Group on Social Responsibility has setup a standard for guidance on Corporate Social Responsibility to help organizations that want to implement this. This standard, the ISO 26000 “Guidance on Social Responsibility”, was the base for the model study on the performance on Corporate Social Responsibility of SGS Analytics (draft 4.2, 2009). To assess its compliance a model study on the performance in relation to Corporate Social Responsibility of the organization was performed and points for improvement were determined.

Using the model the seven main categories from ISO 26000 were assessed:

  • Organizational governance
  • Human rights
  • Labour practices
  • The environment
  • Fair operating practices
  • Consumer issues
  • Community involvement
  • Development

The results of this study are that SGS Analytics has scored satisfactory in 6 of the 7 parts that were investigated with an average mark of 72 out of 100 points. The category for improvement is the use of renewable energy (sustainable resources) and climate mitigation and adaption. For both subjects we started a sustainability program to reduce energy use, to focus on energy efficient equipment and resources and to map our CO2 emissions and find ways to reduce them. SGS Analytics will continue to work on reducing its environmental footprint and adapt CSR in its way of working towards the future. We would like to invite you to work together in making the world a better place to live!
